IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL is a type of laser. This energy-rich white pulsed light creates heat when it touches areas of the body. This is because the pigments in the skin and hair convert light into heat. This thermal reaction is used for permanent hair removal or the various cosmetic skin treatments.
The very short bursts of light and the cooled applicator reduce any sensation of discomfort. The light pulses that strike the skin are only experienced as a slight tingling or prickling. Familiarise yourself with how it feels beforehand with a free test treatment.
This depends on the size of the area to be treated and on your individual treatment requirements. For permanent hair removal, you should expect about 6- 8 sessions at intervals of about 4- 8 weeks. The multiple treatment sessions are needed because only 25-30% of the body’s hairs are growing at any given time and only growing hairs can be permanently removed. The elimination of a light pigment disorder can be successful after 2-3 treatments. In turn, acne needs about 4- 6 treatments, once every two weeks. During our consultation, we will i nform you about the necessary treatment programme and frequency in your own specific case.
Long-term studies over several years bear witness to the permanence of laser hair removal using IPL therapy. The result of these studies is clear: Atrophied hair follicles can no longer produce any hairs. Changes in hormones in a small proportion of clients may lead to the growth of new hair follicles which until treated will give hair growth.
